Nigel Poole
Nigel was born at a very early age, somewhere around the middle of last century. Shortly afterwards, he began piano and organ lessons, which continued throughout his schooling. Far too lazy and irresponsible to complete tertiary music studies, he ran away to sea to play piano on cruise ships and later on tourist resorts.
In the mid-1990s, one Queensland tourist resort decided to replace him with a Yamaha DiskClavier.
Nigel saw the writing on the wall and realised it was time to complete some tertiary study in order to broaden his options. He completed a BA in Musicology, German and Computer Science, moved to Canberra, found work in IT and did further studies in IT.
He stopped playing in bars and reawakened his interest in classical music, particularly church music, and composition.
Nigel is now an assistant organist (and occasionally let loose as a relief choirmaster) at St John’s Church in Reid. He is also actively involved in the work of the Royal School of Church Music. In March of this year, he was awarded a CertRCO from the Royal College of Organists.
He enjoys the opportunity offered by this concert to indulge in a slightly less traditional approach to music composition than he is used to in church!
